Program mission statement:

This program is the result of a partnership with Rio Salado College in Phoenix, Arizona. The program meets the needs of students who are seeking a Bachelor’s degree that is a requirement for certification as a teacher in elementary, secondary, or special education.  Upon completion of Rio Salado coursework, students will be able to qualify to apply for an Arizona teaching certificate in elementary, secondary or special education. The Rio Salado Teacher Preparation Program is also accepted in the majority of states besides Arizona.

What Will I Learn?
:

Students will learn to:
• Evaluate fundamental social science concepts;
• Examine the implications of social and cultural diversity in social interactions;
• Acquire and use a foundation of research skills from the social sciences and education, including history, psychology, and sociology;
• Examine the relationship of social science to education; and
• Integrate knowledge from the social sciences and education, including history, psychology, and sociology.

Evidence of Student Learning - Internal: How will the program measure what I have learned?:

An aggregation of student work samples from the Bachelor of Arts in Social Science with Education Concentration program indicated that approximately 87% of sampled student work met learning outcomes.  Consistent with Ashford University’s mission to provide high quality education, this data has been reviewed to make adjustments to the program to further enhance and promote student learning.
