Program mission statement:

The Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree is sought by those who seek graduate level understanding, research and analytical capability, and practical application in the corporate world of the theory and practice of business marketing, management, finance, law, information systems, and strategy. Developed to provide advanced business knowledge and know-how as a foundation for the corporate executive or entrepreneur, the MBA also dovetails with several University specialties so that students can specifically concentrate in areas of professional or personal interest, to include entrepreneurship, global business management, information technology management, accounting, finance, nonprofit management, and homeland security resourse allocation.

What Will I Learn?
:

-Conduct advanced business analysis by incorporating the use of various data tools in the discovery of possible solutions for implementation.
-Compare and contrast various organizational managerial approaches to analyze their effect on the individual, group, and organization.
-Analyze the legal, regulatory, and compliance issues impacting managers in today's market place, and emphasize the importance of continuing education for managers for future legal changes.
-Evaluate and analyze advanced analysis methods and techniques to determine their user interdisciplinary applicability in order to meet current and future business needs, and evaluate the need for changes in policies and procedures.
-Distinguish and implement various analytical financial tools to conduct business analysis and to communicate possible solutions and implementation plans for business decisions.
-Focus on various business strategies and approaches used by organizations in their mission to sustain and obtain various marketing segments in order to increase their growth potential and integrate business functions into a coherent business strategy.
-Compare and contrast various market-driven strategies used by organizations to effectively plan for current and future needs of customers.

Comprehensive Exam Objectives:
1. Differentiate various environmental elements affecting the field of Business Administration
2. Review, synthesize and analyze various research perspectives in terms of their relationship with key areas or elements connected to one’s field of study
3. Compare and contrast various theoretical and/or conceptual views in one’s field of study as it relates to current trends in today’s marketplace
4. Critique and analyze current research trends in today’s workplace and business research, which is reflective of both environments, in terms of economic, social, cultural, and political changes and perspectives
5. Explore and examine the impact of both business and personal ethics in the workplace and world in general

Comprehensive Exam Evaluation Procedures:
Six (6) practice questions will be assigned by the instructor for students to practice preparing for their comprehensive exam.  The exam will be 6 hours long, and each student will be responsible for working with the faculty member to schedule their exam, as well as obtaining a password to enter the exam.  The faculty member will be responsible for overseeing the preparing of the students for the examination, as well as being the reader/evaluator of each exam.  Students will be given four (4) new questions on the day of their exam.  The students will not see the questions prior to their taking of the examination.  The exam questions will be randomly generated for each student.

Comprehensive Exam Results:
In 2008, 100% of students passed the exam.  64% passed "with distinction."

Practicum Objectives:

The successful student will fulfill the following learning objectives:
1. Identify and obtain approval for an organization or project of interest related to your concentration and/or area of study in order to demonstrate learning and apply concepts to practice.
2. Select and obtain an approval for a workplace mentor to guide your work during your practicum.
3. Synthesize, Integrate and apply management theory to an identified practice of management
4. Evaluate practice in the light of management theory
5. Refine skills in critical reflection and analysis through completion of a reflection log
6. Evaluate and develop theory in the context of management practice
7. Complete a 120 – 150 hour practicum in a professor approved organization under the guidance of the mentor.
8. Integrate theory and practiced through submission of an applied research paper using Kolb’s experiential learning cycle as the basis for reflection on that experience demonstrating the student’s ability to review, synthesize, and analyze theory and their experience based upon the literature and their course of study.
9. Demonstrate integration of concepts, theories, practice as a result of completion of core and required course work for the Masters in Management Degree

Evaluation Procedures:
A. Description of your program of study, your learning goals and expectations for this practicum (5% of grade)

B. Selection of an organization and worksite for and completion of the 120 – 150 hour practicum.  Evidence of completion will be: (40% of grade)
a. A letter/email from the organization inviting you to participate and committing them to the work you will complete.  Letter will include a description of the work you will do for the practicum
b. Completion of 120 – 150 hours of an approved practicum
c. A daily log you will keep while working at the practicum location
d. An evaluation of your practicum by your mentor/supervisor on site at the completion of the practicum.

C. Completion of a bibliography related to the practicum selected (5% of grade)

D. Completion of paper summarizing key theories and concepts relevant to the selected practicum.  (10% of grade)

E.  Completion of a 25-page reflective analysis paper using an adaptation of Kolb’s theory of reflection written in APA writing style. (25% of grade)

F. Participation in 3 Coaching Sessions with professor (5% of grade)

G. Participation in Discussion Board  (10% of grade).

Results of External Exams/Assessments: What third-party assessments will measure what I have learned?:

Major Field Test in Business Administration: 
The Major Field Test in Business Administration contains 120 multiple-choice items, some of which are grouped in sets and based on such materials as diagrams, charts, and tables of data.  The questions are designed to measure a student's knowledge and ability to apply significant facts, concepts, theories, and analytical methods.  The questions represent a wide range of difficulty, and the test attempts to cover both depth and breadth in assessing students' levels of achievement.  The major areas covered by the tests are accounting, economics, management, quantitative business analysis and information systems, finance, legal and social environment, and international issues.
