1. Demonstrate leadership and team development skills and successfully integrate them into the proper execution of a project.
2. Apply business and organizational principles and techniques to utilize the appropriate roles and responsibilities of the project team.
3. Develop the various parts of a project plan using industry-standard tools and project management methodologies defined by the Project Management Institute (PMI).
4. Apply legal and ethical principles of organizational management to the execution of a project.
5. Forecast time, resource, and budgeting requirements for a project to coordinate the work within a project team and meet project objectives.
6. Evaluate the various risk analysis techniques to assess and mitigate the risks within a project.
7. Apply procurement management tools and techniques to the process of solicitation, contract administration, and cost reimbursement.
8. Define customer and business requirements to identify project scope and evaluate methods for minimizing and managing scope creep.

The effectiveness of Capella University’s MBA Project Management specialization is measured directly during specialization-specific capstone courses using criterion-referenced assessments of the intended specialization learning outcomes.  In 2009, over 90% of the learners' outcome demonstrations were judged to be at the proficient level of performance or higher across 8 of 9 program outcomes. Faculty have reviewed these data in detail to gain insights into their program's effectiveness, to ask new research questions, and to create action items to improve the program. The outcome data reported are an aggregation of the program outcome assessment data from the capstone course, which is intended to serve as an indicator of the program's effectiveness.
