The mission of the Harold Abel School of Psychology Master of Science (MS) in Psychology degree program is to prepare learners to apply psychological principles and ethical practices to their area of interest. The degree program subscribes to a practitioner-scholar model that requires learners to apply theoretical and research knowledge to practice.

1. Determines the scientific merit of the professional literature.
2. Applies theoretical and research findings from the discipline of psychology to professional and academic activities.
3. Applies ethical principles and standards of psychology to academic and professional activities.
4. Embraces, respects, and responds to individual differences and diversity in the practice of psychology.
5. Communicates psychological concepts effectively using the professional standards of the discipline.

The effectiveness of Capella University’s Capella University's Master’s in Psychology program is measured directly during a single capstone courses using criterion-referenced assessments of the intended learning outcomes.  In 2009, 90% of the learners' outcome demonstrations were judged to be at the proficient level of performance or higher across all program outcomes. Faculty have reviewed these data in detail to gain insights into their program's effectiveness, to ask new research questions, and to create action items to improve the program. The outcome data reported are an aggregation of the program outcome assessment data from the capstone course, which is intended to serve as an indicator of the program's effectiveness.
