What Will I Learn?

For the following list. OC is short for "Outcome":
OC#1) Graduates will resolve accounting issues through demonstration of critical thinking skills.
OC#2) Graduates will conduct specific accounting research and analyze accounting issues.
OC#3) Graduates will conduct specific federal income tax research and analyze federal income tax issues.
OC#4) Graduates will analyze ethical issues in the accounting profession.
OC#5) Graduates will analyze information systems through evaluation of process controls and organizational system risks within a business process.
OC#6) Graduates will demonstrate written communication skills.

Evidence of Student Learning - Internal: How will the program measure what I have learned?:

Assignments from courses are collected and reviewed by external evaluators to determine the level of competency for each outcome. OC #5 was assessed in early '08, when a binary scale was used. From April '08, a 3-point scale replaced the binary scale, based on recommendation from HLC Evaluation Team. All the other outcomes were assessed on a 3-point scale.

2008 Results (for the following list OC is short for "Outcome"):
OC#1) Students seemed weak in evaluating, with the mean score 1.3. Recommended action: Critical thinking course as a prerequisite.
OC#2) Mean 2.69.
OC#3) Mean 2.55.
OC#4) Mean 2.64.
OC#5) 97% met in 2008 (80% in '04--improvements in the course assignments and professional development of faculty on specific topics resulted in the increase between the assessment periods.)
OC#6) Mean 1.83
