3. Analyze the capital structure and degree of leverage of a business; and

What Will I Learn?

  • Use data provided within financial statements to calculate financial ratios and common-size statements.
  • Apply time-value-of-money techniques to derive security valuation tools and models.
  • Calculate values of public-traded securities using accepted bond and stock valuation models.
  • Calculate the weighted-average-cost-of-capital and assess the capital structure of a corporation. 
  • Apply budgeting tools to evaluate capital investment alternatives including net-present-value, internal rate of return and payback methods.

Assignments from courses are collected and reviewed by external evaluators to determine the level of competency for each outcome.

Assessment results for 2009 (n=13) showed that over 71% of the students met program level outcomes at or above the acceptable level.
