Brief Accounts of Institutional Philosophy
Academic Model
Regis University's online learning model is built on adult learning theory, best practices in online facilitation and the concepts of active learning and a community of learners. Technology is not just a tool for learning, but a tool with which to actively engage other learners in a common pursuit of knowledge. Active learning engages students with the learning material through discussion and application of information. Research shows that when students actively apply what they learn in the context of their own experience, they remember more of the information and have a deeper understanding of the content.
A key aspect of Regis' online programs is the Discussion Forum where the Regis community of learners meet at their convenience to discuss course content and their learning experiences in an atmosphere of trust and respect. Perhaps because many College of Professional Studies students are adults with professional careers, discussions tend to be more prolific and reflect deep insights into the course materials which lead to deeper learning.
Most Professional Studies courses are offered in 3 credit hour segments in 5 and 8 week accelerated formats. Registration and student services are all available online.
Mission Statement
Regis University seeks to provide value-centered undergraduate and graduate education, as well as to strengthen commitment to community service. We nurture the life of the mind and the pursuit of truth within an environment conducive to effective teaching, learning and personal development. Consistent with Judeo-Christian principles, we apply knowledge to human needs and seek to preserve the best of the human heritage. We encourage the continual search for truth, values and a just existence. Throughout this process, we examine and attempt to answer the question: "How ought we to live?"
