Brief Accounts of Institutional Philosophy
Academic Model
University of the Rockies faculty have endorsed and adopted the American Psychological Association practitioner-scholar model for training. This model includes competencies that are important indicators of the intellectual growth required for professional practice, service, and distinguished leadership.
University of the Rockies places student learning above all other priorities. Since its founding as the Colorado School of Professional Psychology, the institution has been characterized by a learning environment that fosters non-competitive interaction among students and faculty. Many students are already engaged in professional practice when they matriculate and bring years of experience to the classroom. Students have the flexibility to attend class online or on-campus in evening, weekend, or weekend intensive course formats. Most programs are offered either online or in the classroom except for the PsyD, Clinical Specialization, which is solely a campus-based program.
Faculty members, who are also engaged in professional practice, encourage students to share their expertise in discussions, presentations, and small group discussion. In online classes, the learning management system is used to foster this same friendly and cooperative environment through required log-ins and online conversations during each course.
Mission Statement
