Getting Started
Online learning typically begins when you enter a pre-assigned username and password into the institution’s login screen. This puts you into what’s called a Course Management System (CMS). The CMS is where you access all the pertinent information related to your courses, along with any online tools you will use as you move through your coursework.

What Happens After You Login?
The faculty member leading the course usually provides his or her contact information to you via a welcome message, along with a syllabus that outlines the structure of the course and the work that will be required of you. Any required textbooks and supplemental course materials would be duly noted in the syllabus. The course learning objectives, rules, and how you will be graded also should be clearly explained. If anything is unclear to you, be sure to ask your instructor immediately.
